New web site framwork

I have started to use a framework called jquery for a number of my sites. The advantage is an easy way to get a consistent look and feel to the site with many effects, good for graphic based sites. Some of the latest ones using this technology are:

The main advantage being the reduced time to deploy, the lag is as always collating the information.

Orange Livebox support
I have found a large % of my call outs for Internet connectivity for the Orange Live box here on the Cote d'Azur is to do with lack of WiFi connectivity. Symptoms is that you can see the SSID but can not connect even after putting in the WEP key. On the bottom of the Livebox is a WiFi button. The first time you connect via WiFi this needs to be pressed so a pairing can take place. After that you should be good to go.

New hosting service
The walking site Riviera Rambling was originally hosted on OVH. The site was becoming more popular but OVH is a case of "you get what you pay for" the shared server just could not "hack" it. After some research I have started with Brittany Internet http://www.brittany-internet.com - the results speak for themselves, they are now our hoster of choice. Call them for an efficient friendly service.

New Chipset in Revo iBlik WiFi

New Chipset in Revo iBlik WiFi

The new Revo radios are now using chipsets from http://www.wifiradio-frontier.com or Frontier Silicon, please visit www.frontier-silicon.com. The Revo products have always been well designed and have proved their success with our customer base. So what does this change mean? well from installs in the field the results show the  effective WiFi ranges seems to be greater and the start up times are faster. So for this technically unsympathetic world all in all the Revo product line has just got better. They have the same functionallity as before of Internet Radio, favourites list and media player. The menu for the media player has a few more stages but this distracts very little from the overall improvements.

Free Delivers Broadband TV to Vallauris

Free Delivers Broadband TV to Vallauris

Finally, after almost 12 months of waiting, Free www.free.fr has delivered the full broadband package to Vallauris. For eleven months I have been benefitting from a degrouped line provided by Free in France. The package was impressive: free phone calls to 45 countries, up to 5 Mbit/s download, just under 1 Mbit/s upload connection and a HD set top box with a TNT tuner thrown in. Until this month I did not benefit from the broadband TV and the FreePlayer which is a PC/Mac software based on an excellent Open Source multimedia player called VLC www.videolan.org . VLC in combination with the set top box enables you to view the TV on any PC or Mac on your network. The set top box has an internal hard drive and can work as a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) the storage capacity of which you can easily be extended with an external drive or USB flash drive.

All in all Free with their HD set top box delivers a Geeks paradise but to a non technical person it can prove a hurdle - happy viewing! at least now Vallauris is on the map with the neighbouring Sophia Antipolis.
